Wrestlicious - Female Wrestling

With WWE and TNA's ticket sales flagging, is it really a good time to launch a new wrestling promotion?
Well 19 year old Powerball winner Jonathan Vargas thinks so, his Wrestlicious Takedown is a new wrestling TV show that started this year
Big Vision Entertainment was thinking about launching a new GLOW, but it appears they were beaten to the punch.

Wrestlicious is, well, think GLOW run through a timewarp.
Over the top characters, singing, dancing, comedy sketches.....you get the point.
One advantage Wrestlicious has over GLOW is that where GLOW basically used actresses and models as performers, Wrestlicious has mainly real wrestlers.
Indy wrestlers Daffney, Amber O'Neal, Lizzy Valentine, Christie Ricci, Becky Bayless, Lacey Von Erich, Daizee Haze, Portia Perez, Lexie Fyfe and Serena Deeb are all in the first few episodes of the show (which was filmed in August 2008 preventing contract disputes such as Daffney and TNA).
The show is hosted by wrestling legend Jimmy Hart, and Jonathan Vargas who shows up on the show as “JV Rich”, the "laid back and likable Rapper/Owner of Wrestlicious".
Part of the reason that Wrestlicious looks a lot like GLOW is that the Senior Producer of the show is GLOW alumni Johnny Cafarella.
Wrestlicious is taking the internet seriously.
They have their own YouTube channel and their own Twitter account, Facebook Page and MySpace page.

So how will Wrestlicious do?
I don't see it threatening WWE or TNA.
Vince has already gone with the PG-13 look for the Divas, even changing their slogan to "Sexy, Smart, Powerful."
And TNA is mainly in it for the wrestling with their Knockout division (or at least they were).
BUT you never know, Wrestlicious could take off like wildfire.
Will a new GLOW be the next big thing?
It's hard to say.
Without the backing of Fox like they originally hoped, they are having to rely a lot on the internet.
They do seem to have a small, but loyal fan base.
But the popularity of Wrestlicious is lagging far, far behind the WWE and TNA.

UPDATES - December 17th, 2011

On their Facebook page on December 1st 2011, Wrestlicious said that "info on Season 2 will be posted here! Stay tuned!"
And they also put a video up on their YouTube page that I think is a whole episode.

BTW, congratulations to Wrestlicious for figuring out (like TNA) that allowing people to post info, videos and pictures increases interest in their product.
Another major wrestling promotion hasn't figured that out yet.

Just so you know, it's not Roni Jonah that is Draculeta. She has nothing to do with the show. It's actually going to be Shannon Spruill/TNA's Daffney that is playing her.

Thank you!

Any good info I can get on the show is very much appreciated.

I heard GLOW's Hollywood is gonna be on there, and also there's Lexie Fyfe who's gonna play as one half of the Lunch Ladies. Also former ECW Diva Lena Yada is on there. there's more wrestlers like Bootcamp Betsy, Cousin Casey (the Farmer's Daughter) and Sha-Na-Na.

Unfortunately, no channels have picked it up, it was promoted to start in the Fall of 2009. No announcements have been made. If the news comes up, http://www.wrestlersfemale.com will have it.

I give it almost zero chance of succeeding, even if it does see the light of day.

What kind word is "Wrestlicious"?! With mainstream TV on a fanatical race to the utmost bottom depths of journalism, Fox TV kicks in the afterburners.

Doubtless, the attractive and talented women who will be composing the cast of this scripted spectacle, are well-paid and skilled athletes in their own rights. In my opinion, this debased commericalized spectcle of "Wrestlicious", is nearly beyond reproach.

Is this the best that Fox TV can put forth for "entertainment", the crass, juvenile (hey man..check out the babe..yea) portrayal of otherwise talented and attractive women?

Most likely the word "Wrestlicious" was thought up by the 19 year old or Jimmy Hart.

That should say enough there...LOL

Fox is not a lock for the program, originally it was, but now it looks more like they may be in syndication.

Contrary to what many people may think, Daffney is not Draculetta, she is Vampira and Draculetta is a completely different character. I can also name some more members of the roster, if you want me to.

I thought it was kinda cool (in a "Hee Haw" comedy sort of way), but when I saw the "character" "JV Rich" come out with his girls like a Pimp, I lost interest. Note to JV/"JV Rich": if you wanna save this show, stay off-screen-- no one want's to see a slightly exaggerated character based on the youngest Powerball winner ever, or how he's investing his money.

Pretty interesting hub Sabre. I stopped watching wrestling a long time ago and not even the gorgeous women would be enough to get me to continue watching. I found this hub on twitter and RT'd it for you. :) Thank you for sharing. :)
