The Women of Lucha Libre

Mexican pro wrestling (Lucha Libre) is a tradition in Mexico that has spilled over into America's culture.
And in Lucha Libre Mexicana, the luchadoras (female wrestlers) there are just as respected as the male wrestlers.
On this female wrestling list, there are some of the most popular female wrestlers in Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and some of the Indy Mexican wrestling promotions.
And remember, this is more than just girls wrestling, this is a Mexican tradition.

Xóchitl Leyva Sánchez was born on February 20th,1973 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
She is better known in Lucha Libre as the Luchadora Tiffany.
As with a lot of Lucha Libre stars, Tiffany comes from a wrestling family. Her father Jesse Rojas "El Vasco", a famous Luchadore, her mother was the original La Diabolica and her brother Jessy is also a Luchadore.
Tiffany was trained by her father and made her professional wrestling debut on July 18, 1993 at the Arena Solidaridad in her hometown, Monterrey.
She has held the Northern Women's Wrestling Title, the National Women's Wrestling Title twice, the AAA Reina de Reinas and the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Wrestling Championship with Chessman.

Marcela is another Mexican female pro wrestler.
This Lucha Libre star was born on May 31st, 1971 in Mexico City, Mexico.
She was trained by Panchito Villalobos, Rafael Salamanca, Franco Colombo, Jose Luis Feliciano, Satanico and Fantastik.
Marcela made her pro wrestling debut in December of 1985 in Actopan, Hidalgo, Mexico.
Her favorite wrestling moves are the Plancha Suicida (diving on an opponent outside the wrestling ring), the La Tapatía (Romero ceiling hold), Kentucky Bomb ((Pump Handle into a Power Bomb), Shinzaki Praying Ropewalk Chop ( Kinda like The Undertakers "Old School" move) and the Michinoku Driver (a sitout scoop slam piledriver).
She has held the Distrito Federal Women's Wrestling Title, the CMLL Women's Wrestling Title twice and the Mexican National Women's Wrestling Championship.

Sarah Stock was born on March 4th, 1979 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Although Sarah is a Canadian professional wrestler, she has made quite a name for herself in Lucha Libre as one of their biggest stars.
She originally wrestled as "Dark Angel" (a name many Lucha Libre fans still use) but she lost her mask to her mortal enemy(at the time) Princesa Sugey.
This took place in a bloody 45 minute brawl.
Yes 45 minutes.
In Mexico, Sarah wrestled for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Federación Internacional de Lucha Libre and Lucha Libre Feminil.
Now Sarah has jumped from Mexico to TNA in the US and is using the ring name Sarita.

Of all the Luchadoras I have written about on my blogs and Hubs, one of the most popular female wrestlers is Sexi Star.
Sexi Star's real name is Dulce Maria Garcia Rivas and she was born on September 20th, 1982.
She was trained by luchadores Humberto Garza Jr., Mr. Lince, Gran Apache and the late Abismo Negro.
Sexi Star made her lucha libre debut not as Sexi Star, but as Dulce Poly on August 29, 2006 at the Arena Coliseo De Monterrey in Nuevo León, Mexico.
She kept the name Dulce Poly when she wrestled for Federación Internacional de Lucha Libre (FILL), but changed it to Sexi Star when she jumped over to Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA).
As Dulce Poly, she held the FILL Women's Wrestling Championship, retaining it in battles with other famous female Lucha Libre Stars such as La Bruja, La Bandida and Simply Luscious.
She finally lost the title to La Bandida on Feburary 27, 2007.
Besides the FILL Women's Wrestling Championship, she also held the FILL Mixed Tag Team Championship with Humberto Garza Jr.

Mexican Luchadora La Amapola was born Guadalupe Olvera on September 9th of an unknown year in the Distrito Federal, Mexico. She was trained by Insolito, Super Muñeco, Satanico, Franco Colombo and her husband, Adonis Salazar. She made her pro wrestling debut on December, 1997 at the Arena Neza in Netzahualcoyotl, Mexico State. Amapola engaged in a feud with Dark Angel (Sarah Stock) that resulted in Amapola losing her mask in a match with Sarah.

Diana la Cazadora was born on January 16th, 1978 in Ciudad Madero,Tamaulipas, Mexico.
She was trained by luchadores Carnicero Aguilar and Centurion Negro and made her lucha libre debut on August 24, 1997.
Diana has held the LLF Junior Title, LLF Tag Team Wrestling Titles (with Nikki Roxx) and the Monterrey Women's Wrestling Title.

La Chacala is pretty much the Luchadora version of Triple H.
It wouldn't surprise me a bit to see her come out from under a ring one night with a sledgehammer.
This lady is rough.
Her real name is Carolina Escobedo Villanueva and she was born on April 27th in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
She was trained by luchador Pequeño Diamante and made her lucha libre debut in 1998.
She frequently tag teams with another brawler, Tsunami.

Fabiola Balbuena Torres was born on December 26th, 1980 in Mexico City, Mexico. She is a female wrestler better known in Lucha Libre as Faby Apache. Faby is another from a big family of wrestlers. Her father is the legendary luchadore Gran Apache her step mother is Lady Apache, her sister is Mari Apache and her husband is Billy Boy. She was trained by her father and Joshi legends Aja Kong and Mariko Yoshida. Faby made her pro wrestling debut on January 20, 1998 at the Deportivo Azcapotzalco in Mexico City. Faby recently won the 2008 Reina de Reinas.

Luchadora Sahori has had a varied career. She wrestled masked as Lady Luxor, then as the alledged girlfriend of La Parka called La Novia De La Parka and finally as Sahori. She was trained by Panchito Villalobos, Jose Luis Feliciano, Scorpio, El Hijo Del Gladiador and Franco Colombo.

Another masked luchadora, India Sioux, is very popular tecnica (good guy).
India was born on September 20th, 1984 in Nezahualcoyotl Mexico.
She was trained by luchadors Puma, La Marquesa, José Luis Feliciano and Hombre Bala, her father.
Her wrestling debut was in April of 2004 in Chimaluacan, Estado De Mexico.
India recently had a baby, and we may have seen the last of the lovely young lady in the ring.

Another popular wrestler in Mexico is Princesa Sugey.
Although I have seen it spelled Sujei, Sugeith..a lot of various ways.
No one knows her real name, but we do know Sugey is part of it.
She was born on June 25th, 1980 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
She was trained by luchadors Bello Kalifa, Centurión Negro and Carnicero Aguilar.
Princesa Sujei she made her wrestling debut in her hometown on September 22, 1996 in the Arena La Junta.
She has held the LLF Extreme Title, LLF Juvenil Title and the LLF Tag Team Titles with fellow luchadora, Polly Star.

Female luchador Shira was born Carolina de la Rosa Juárez on May 25th, 1980 in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico.
She was trained by luchadors Reynaldo Trevino (Indio Chirikawa I) and Blue Panther and she made her lucha libre debut at Plaza de Toros in 1995.
Besides Shira, she has also wrestled under the name Guerrera Azteca (Aztec Warrior).
She has mainly worked for Lucha Libre Femenil (LLF)
