The Avengers - Upcoming Marvel Movies
70
The biggest Marvel movie yet, The Avengers.
Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 have been released and Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger are filming.
These movies all have some type of tie in or lead in with each other that other films, (Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men) have missed because they are not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
And those tie-ins lead to one point.
The Avengers.
Yes the Marvel super group is the center piece of the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Avengers were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby (of course) and made their debut in The Avengers #1, September 1963.
So far, the character tie ins for this movie are:
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America: Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers.
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2 and The Avengers.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor: Thor and The Avengers.
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury: Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers.
Clark Gregg as SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson (who is kind of the Wedge Antilles of the Marvel Cinematic Universe): Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Thor.
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff (The Black Widow): Iron Man 2 and The Avengers.
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye: Just the Avengers so far...but you never know....
Tom Hiddleston as Loki in both Thor and The Avengers.
Things get a little complicated with The Incredible Hulk as Edward Norton was supposed to be in The Avengers, but has been replaced by Mark Ruffalo.
As far as I know though, Lou Ferrigno will still voice the Hulk.
Kinda the same thing again as Terrence Howard was James "Rhodey" Rhodes in Iron Man and was replaced by Don Cheadle in Iron man 2, and Cheadle will appear in The Avengers as Rhodey and War Machine.
Why War Machine AND Iron Man in the same film?
I don’t know.
Howard Stark is in three different films played by three different people.
Gerard Sanders, John Slattery and Dominic Cooper in Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The First Avenger respectively.
Gwyneth Paltrow will be reprising her role as Pepper Potts from the Iron Man movies and "How I Met Your Mother" star Cobie Smulders will be SHIELD agent Maria Hill.
Stellan Skarsgard will also be in the film as Doctor Erik Selvig from Thor.
Also, Lyle Lovett will be playing another SHIELD agent, Agent Westfield.
As far as the bad guys go (That is besides Loki), there is a whole army of creatures that Joss Whedon is staying very hush-hush on.
But he has said is is NOT the Skrull or the Kree.
Or he could just be throwing us a swerve...you never know.

I am actually anxious about this movie series. I love tie ins from other stories, be it books, tv series, or movies. So I am giggly from anticipation. Thanks for bringing it out into the open where I can be silly with other fans.
Welcome!
The Avengers is not my favorite super hero team, but Marvel is certainly getting me excited wit the way tbey are promoting.
Your obvious expertise in this genre is appreciated! Good research and depth... Thanks for sharing.
very intresting hub, not familar with some of them though would love some pics of the super heroes :)
Great hub Saber and thank you for another link, I will return in kind. This weekend they will be revealing the full cast at Comic Con SanDiego so you might be able to get a cast update from there.
I had a chance to check out some of your blogs and they are cool also.
Yeah! Why didnt u get back Edward Norton to become the Incredilble Hulk again? He was the best Hulk of all time. I can't wait till the Avengers movie comes out. I have become a BIG fan of the team for years. My Dad and I were at the FanExpo in Toronto on August 29th and it was awesome. I bought a Captain America t-shirt of a classic comic book.
Thanks,
Craig Irons
Just encase there are still people confused about "canon" when it comes to the marvel studios cinematic universe.
All Spider-man, X men, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Dare Devil and the last 3 Punisher films rights are owned by Sony (Spider-man Only) and Fox at the moment (Excluding The Punisher, who Marvel has just recently regained movie rights to, therefore a future Punisher film will most likely feature as part of the cinematic universe).
Anything to do with these property's is not part of the marvel cinematic universe nor are they made by Marvel Studios it self. The first Hulk (2003) film is not apart of the cinematic universe however the 2008 reboot film entitled The Incredible Hulk made by marvel studios, starring Edward Norton is.
For a complete guide to the Marvel Cinematic Universe refer to this link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Cinematic_Univ
The up coming films currently in production that will be apart of the cinematic universe are Captain America (2011), Thor (2011) and The Avengers (2012). The Avengers film will bring together all the heroes from previous films that are so far apart of the marvel cinematic universe.
Wow Super cool hub! I'm really looking forward to this movie, and I think it will change how comic movies are done. I'm seeing even more cross over films as Iron Man & Thor are confirmed for a 2013 release. I have no doubt that those films will tie into another Avengers sequel in the future.
Great hub sabreblade, and cool handle by the way!
I liked the first Ironman movie the most of all the Marvel movies. I hope the avengers stands out as a great super hero movie. That was my complaint with Captain America. It felt like just another super hero movie. not saying it was bad though.
Hey Sabre, it's going to be an interesting movie to say the least. The star studded cast and characters make for one hell of a fight. :) It will be a movie I will definitely be seeing. :) Great hub! :)

The Avengers is a most ambitious movie, and the star power will be a draw (I will miss Edward Norton, though--I have always liked him as an actor). If this movie is well done and successful, it could be a turning point in the making of movies about comics--it might easily become the standard by which movies about comics are judged. If it comes off poorly, Hollywood might scale back comic movies in both their frequency and their budgets.
I am looking forward to it tremendously, and the comics fan in me is hoping for the best. Thanks for another look at comic-hero movies, you have truly found my weakness!
