Superhero TV Commercials and Movie Clips

Superhero TV Commercials and Movie Clips. The good, the bad and the hilarious.

I have done Hubs on Superheroes, Superhero movies and Superhero TV shows, but I have to say, this has to be the weirdest one I have ever undertaken.
Sure DC comics and Marvel have put out some great movies, and some bad movies.
But these clips are in a category all their own.
Some of these clips are nostalgic gems, some are really well made commercials and some will make you want to increase your meds.

Superman

Kellogg's sponsored the old Superman radio show, and when the Man of Steel made the jump from the radio to the small screen, Kellogg's went with him.
They made a series of TV commercials promoting their cereal products with characters from the show that were usually shown at the end of the programs.
Here is one starring George Reeves as Clark Kent.
Yes Clark Kent, not Superman.
I don't know why they chose the "mild mannered reporter" over his costumed alter-ego, but they did.

Superman Kelloggs Commercial

Years later, Superman would return, this time in an animated version, to hawk his own Superman Peanut Butter.
The cool thing about this is that the art is obviously by comic book artist Neal Adams (or Neal Adams inspired).
And we all know that the peanut butter had to be good, Superman could kick the crap outta Peter Pan!
Unless Pan was powered by magic...hmmmm....

Superman Peanut Butter Commercial

Here is a live action version...

And years after that, The Man of Steel would appear again in animated form in a series of American Express commercials with Jerry Seinfeld.
I love these mainly because I have always thought that if DC ever made a "Kingdom Come" movie, Patrick Warburton would make a perfect older Superman.
I guess this is as close as I'll get.

Batman

Of course The Dark Knight got in on the commercial act as well.
Here we have a  Equal Pay PSA Commercial starring Yvonne Craig as Batgirl and Burt Ward as Robin.
They must have blown their whole budget on getting those two, as the guy that plays Batman is...well...kinda bad.
BTW, this was posted on YouTube from The Bat Blog, and if you wanna see a ton of Batman themed merchandise that you have probably never seen before, head over there.

1966 Batman TV Show: Batgirl Equal Pay PSA Commercial

Remember Zayre?
It used to be a department store chain like Wal-Mart.
Here is a really not too bad 1960s inspired commercial they did in in the 1980s

Batman and Robin Zayre TV Commercial

OnStar did several Batman commercials that were really pretty cool.
Here is the first one, with Batman chasing the Joker through Gotham City.

Batman - OnStar TV commercial "Joker"

And from 1989, we have Alfred calling a local store to make sure they had the Diet Coke ready when the Dark Knight got there.

1989 Batman Diet Coke Commercial

Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and Batgirl

And here is a Mexican commercial starring Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and Batgirl for El Palacio de Hierro, a department store chain.
I really love this because they did a pretty darn good job re-creating the 1960 Batgirl, the 1960 Catwoman, and the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman.
You can tell whoever did the commercial, was either a fan, or really did their research.

The Batman Snicker Ad

Finally, even though Batman doesn't actually appear in this commercial, I had to throw this in because it's one of my favorites, .
I remember laughing so hard when I first saw this one, I got tears in my eyes.
Maybe I was on something.....
Anyway, the actors really make this one.

Really Bad Superhero Movies

Besides commercials, Superheroes have shown up all over the world (and in the US) in ways that are at times....well kinda disturbing.

Case in Point, Andy Warhol's Batman Dracula which was done in 1964 (a full two years before Batman hit the small screen).
This looks kinda like a black and white acid trip to me.

Andy Warhol's Batman/Dracula

Equally disturbing is The Wild World of Batwoman directed by director, producer, and writer, Jerry Warren (Teenage Zombies, Curse of the Stone Hand).

The Wild World of Batwoman

This one is disturbing as well, but I gotta admit, I kinda like it.
Mainly because it looks like a bunch of people got together and said "Hey...let's make a movie!" and they looked like they had fun doing it.
One saving grace here is that it's SUPPOSED to be funny.
And check out the handmade Batmobile...

Alyas : Batman en Robin

Of course since I like Bollywood so much, I had to throw in the Bollywood Superman clip.
The guy playing Superman here is Bollywood icon, Govinda and "Spiderwoman" is (if I'm not mistaken) Kimi Katkar.
The movie this is from is called Dariya Dil and the film isn't about Superman, this is just a musical sequence.
Why is the "S" so freakin big?

Bollywood Superman : Dariya Dil

And in a much better costume, we have a Turkish Superman, complete with John Williams music and flying Mego doll!

Turkish Superman

I have mentioned the Turkish movie 3 DEV ADAM before, so why in the name of God am I bringing it up again?
Well where else can you see Captain America and Lucha Libre legend El Santo take on an evil Spider-man?
Okay, not counting the above mentioned acid trip.
And relax Lucha Libre fans, this isn't really Santo.

Warning! This clip is not suitable for all audiences because it's really bad....it shows a woman being strangled by Spider-Man with a shower spray hose ..some weird Orwellian torture involving hamsters (or gerbils...I can't tell)...and because it's bad.
If you MUST see it, you can go here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6h8WntefD0
But remember, I warned you.

And now we have the Japanese Spider Man, in a much better costume and with his famous giant transforming robot from the comics.
Wait...Spiderman had a giant transforming robot?
It looks like they took more from the 70s The Amazing Spider-Man TV show than from the comics here.
They even have Nicholas Hammond's old webshooter bracelets.
Or one of them at least.....

Japanese Spider Man

This was terrific, some of this stuff I had never seen before! Some of it was flat-out odd, as well; which is part of its appeal, of course.

This was a terrific addition to your super-hero hubs, sabre. Thanks!

Hi Sabreblade, your hub rekindle a lot of fond memories. The 50's and early 60's were my adolescent years and watching saturday mornings cartoons was a ritual in my parents home:)...I recently purchase a $1 bowl of Frosted Flakes and they still taste grreaatt! Tony The Tiger has to be a senior citizen.
