Indian Film Actresses 20 - Bollywood and More
81Featuring Vidya Balan, Zarine Khan, Urmila Matondkar, Udita Goswami and more.
Okay ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages.....
Here is the last in my series of the women of not just Bollywood, but all of Indian cinema like Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada cinema and more.
I never thought I would actually be able to stick with this, but I did.
We started all the way back on March 6th, 2010 with Indian Film Actresses - Bollywood and More, and I said then it was my most ambitious undertaking on Hub Pages yet.
And it has been.
I have tried to go beyond just posting pictures, and actually give you some info on these women, places where you could watch their movies online, and links to other Hubs about them.
And it must have been a pretty good idea, because these Hubs are (bar none) my highest visited sites.
The very first Hub started out with the beautiful Aishwarya Rai, and now we are down to the end.
Of course I missed some, I couldn’t get everyone...LOL
But I hope along the way you have learned some about these women, and seen that Hollywood isn’t the only game in town.
And since I stated these Hubs, Hollywood seems to be expressing more and more interest in these beautiful actresses.
Okay...I'm not saying "I" did it...its coincidence.
Anyway, here is the last Hub, I hope you enjoy it, and thanks for dropping by.
So let's start with...
Udita Goswami
Udita Goswami was born on September 2nd, 1984 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.
This Indian actress started out in modeling, as many do, doing work for brands like Pepsi, Titan Watches and Nokia.
She made her acting debut in the 2003 Bollywood film Paap, with John Abraham, Gulshan Grover and Mohan Agashe.
Paap was based on the 1985 Hollywood film Witness, with Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis.
She has since appeared in ten films, and has three set for 2010 release.
Here she is with British Indian model and Bollywood actor Upen Patel in Ahmed Khan's music video of the remix of Kya Khoob Lagti Ho
Ujjwala Raut
Although Ujjwala Raut is known as a model, of course there are rumors of her going into acting.
Ujjwala was born on June 11, 1978 in Mumbai, India.
At the age of seventeen, she was a competitor in the 1996 Feminia Miss India pageant, and although she didn’t win the crown, she did win Femina Look of the Year there.
Ujjwala then began a career as a fashion model and has done work for companies and designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Roberto Cavalli, Gap, Oscar de la Renta, and of course, Victoria's Secret.
So let’s see, former Feminia Miss India contestant, model...I give her chances of going into acting about 90%.
Urmila Matondkar
Urmila Matondkar was born on February 4th, 1974 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
She made her acting debut at the age of seven in the 1981 film, Kalyug.
Urmila has gone on to appear in over sixty Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films.
She has also been nominated for, and won many Filmfare Awards, Star Screen Awards and Zee Cine Awards among others.
Urvashi Sharma
Another model turned actress is the beautiful Urvashi Sharma.
Urvashi was born on October 13th, 1984 in Delhi, India.
This five foot eight beauty is of Punjabi and Caucasian ancestry.
She made her acting debut in the 2007 Bollywood film, Naqaab, with Bobby Deol and Akshaye Khanna.
Here she is in the video "Something Something" by Mika
Vaishali Desai
Indian model and actress Vaishali Desai was born on December 18th, 1984.
She represented India at the Miss International 2005 beauty pageant, a pageant that was won by a lady I profiled on another Hub, Precious Lara Quigaman.
Vaishali started out doing fashion modeling, and then moved onto commercial modeling before finally making her acting debut in the 2001 film American Desi as a Garba Dancer.
(Garba is a form of dance that originated in the Gujarat region.)
She got her big break in the 2009 film, Kal Kissne Dekha.
Unfortunately, the film did not do very well.
Here she is in a video by the Indian band Euphoria for the song Mehfuz.
Vasundhara Das
Vasundhara Das is an Indian actress, singer and playback singer.
She was born in 1977 in Bengalooru, India, and started learning Hindustani Classical music at the age of six.
Vasundhara made her playback singing debut in the 1999 Tamil film Mudhalvan, singing Shakalaka Baby.
She made her acting debut in the controversial 2000 Indian film, Hey Ram.
Besides acting and doing playback work, she has recorded her own album of non-film songs, and she has sung in French, English, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages.
Vasundhara and Roberto Narain founded a band called Arya.
She has acted in nine films, and done musical work in over thirty more.
Vidya Balan
The beautiful Vidya Balan was born on Januaury 1st, 1978 in Palakkad, Kerala, India.
She did work in music videos, soap operas and commercials before making her big screen debut in the 2003 Bengali film, Bhalo Theko.
Vidya has appeared in sixteen films, with five coming out in 2010, and has won and been nominated for a ton of awards.
Among her wins are the 2006 Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for Parineeta, the 2006 Filmfare Face of the Year, also for Parineeta and the 2010 Filmfare Best Actress Award for the film Paa.
Here is a video of a photo shoot she did for Man magazine
Zarine Khan
Zarine Khan was born on May 25th, 1984, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
In some shots, this Indian actress and model looks so much like Katrina Kaif, you'd think they were separated at birth.
Oddly enough, the man that discovered her, Salman Khan is Katrina's boyfriend.
This of course stirred up a LOT of Bollywood gossip.
Her debut film was Veer in 2010, a film that unfortunately didn’t do very well.
However, she will be appearing in the 2011 film Partner 2, with Salman Khan, Govinda, Lara Dutta, Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma.
Hopefully that film will do better.
