Indian Film Actresses 16 - Bollywood and More

Here is number sixteen in my series of Hubs about the women of Indian cinema.
This time we have actresses, models, singers and dancers from Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films.

Telugu actress, director and producer Savitri was born on December 6, 1937, in Chirravuru, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Her acting debut was in the 1950 Telugu movie, Samsaram.
She went on to appear in over three hundred Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi language films.
Her last film was Andarikante Monagadu in 1985, and she passed away on December 26th 1981 in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India.

Shabana Azmi was born on September 18th, 1950 in New Delhi, India.
She is one of the leading actresses of parallel cinema and a social activist.
Shabana made her acting debut in the 1974 Hindi film, Parinay.
Actually Ankur (The Seedling), Faslah, Ishq Ishq Ishq and Parinay all came out in 1974.

Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu actress Shalini Kumar was born on November 20th, 1980 in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India.
She made her acting debut at the age of three (yes...three) in the Malayalam film, Ente Mamattikkuttiyammakku.
And get this...at the age of three, she was good enough to get the Kerala State Award for Best Child Artist.
She went on to appear in over ninety films, but after she married Ajith Kumar she left the film industry.

Like Shalini, Shamili started acting at a very young age.
Two.
Yes, Shamili made her acting debut at the age of two in the 1989 Tamil film, Rajanadai.
But she got everyone's attention at the age of five, when she appeared in the 1990 Tamil film Anjali, as a mentally challenged child.
For that role, she won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist.
She has gone on to appear in almost forty films.

The younger sister of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, Shamita Shetty, was born on Februrary 2nd, 1979 in Mangalore, Karnataka, India .
She made her acting debut in the 2000 Bollywood film Mohabbatein.
Shamita hasn't really cranked out films like some actresses have, appearing in only 15 in the past ten years.
She made an appearance in a film that got a little international attention in 2008.
The film was Hari Puttar: A Comedy of Terrors and before you jump the gun (or make what looks like the logical conclusion) it wasn't a rip off of Harry Potter.
No...it was actually based on Home Alone.
????
Yeah I know...that's what I said.
But it turns out, Hari is a popular name in India, and "puttar" means "son" in Punjabi.

Kannada, Telugu and Tamil actress Sherin was born on May 5, 1985 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
She made her acting debut in the 2002 Tamil film Thulluvadho Ilamai, along with Dhanush, Abhinay, Ramesh, Shilpa and Gangeshwari.
Sherin went on to appear in sixteen films, with two scheduled for 2010 release.

Sherlyn Chopra (also known as Mona Chopra) was born on February 11, 1984 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
She made her acting debut in the 2002 English language film, Beeper, with Harvey Keitel.
Her next film, Time Pass, was filmed in India.
Sherlyn really hasn't made that many films, only nine since 2002.
In addition to acting, she has released two albums, Outrageous (2007) and Dard-e-sherlyn (2009).

Shilpa Anand was born on December 10th, 1982 in South Africa.
So far, Shilpa has only appeared in three films, Vishnu (Tamil, 2003), Iqaar By Chance (Hindi, 2006) and Sirf (Hindi 2007).
She also appeared on the TV show Dill Mill Gaye as Dr. Riddhima Gupta.

And now we get to Shamita's older sister, Indian actress and model, Shilpa Shetty.
Shilpa was born on June 8th, 1975 in Mangalore, Karnataka, India .
This five foot ten inch beauty is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, and a black belt in Karate.
Shilpa made her acting debut in the 1993 film Baazigar, which starred Shahrukh Khan and Kajol.
For her debut role, Shilpa was nominated for the Filmfare Best Debut Award.
She has since appeared in fifty Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films.
