How To Watch TV Over The Internet
77Where to watch movies and tv shows online
Wow....how things have changed.
When I first did this Hub there were tons of places to watch movies and TV shows online.
But now, thanks to the diligent efforts of The Department of Justice, The IPR Coordination Center and our beloved Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a lot of these sites have been crushed.
Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement?
Really?
Were reruns of The Addams Family being shown without the express permission of 20th Century Fox a threat to our American way of life?
After they secured America's borders ::cough:: were they bored and decided to stamp out those who would show us reruns of Firefly for the glory of the Fatherland?
Sorry....the Homeland.
Okay I get not showing first run theatrical films.
That's cool.
But TV show reruns from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s etc got them busted?
And YouTube still is up and running?
But wait!
There are State approved sites where you can watch these show, still free of charge!
Big Brother will be pleased if you watch the shows here.
It is doubleplusgood.
Hulu
Despite all the changes and their pay side....Hulu is still decent.
I mean, you can watch old shows and fairly recent shows for free, with a limited amount of commercials.
Usually two or three per break.
I hate that some shows don't have all of the seasons up, but I understand there are a lot of logistic problems with that.
Also, I have noticed a LOT of Korean TV on the site recently which is interesting.
Movies....well a lot of them are B movies, but you can get lucky at times and find a few gems.
Captain Ron, Mr Destiny and some Lifetime movies top their most popular list at the moment.
Yes....Lifetime movies.
Crackle
Like Hulu, Crackle is free but with an even more limited inventory.
For instance they have Seinfeld....but only 10 episodes out of 180.
I did notice that when I watched News Radio on Hulu, it was coming through Crackle.
Also, (as with Hulu) there is a LOT of Anime on Crackle.
With movies you have a bit of a better selection with films like Step Brothers, Starship Troopers, Snatch, Resident Evil and A Few Good Men.
Despite the fact that Crackle is a legitimate site that Hulu links to, I cannot post a link to them here because it's a violation of HubPages TOS.
CBS
You can catch up on shows at the CBS site, but most of what they have are clips.
Though they do have full episodes of recent shows and interestingly enough, old shows like Dynasty, 90210, and Star Trek:The animated Series.
BUT, to watch TV there, you have to disable (or make exceptions) with any Ad Blocker software you may be running.

ABC
ABC seems to have a better selection of it's shows with even ABC Family programs available on the main ABC site.
They also have more full episodes and less clips.
And yes, you must disable your Ad blocking software to watch videos there.
http://abc.go.com/
NBC
NBC has current shows plus a pretty big video library of old TV shows like The A-Team, Battlestar Galactica, even Emergency and Charles in Charge.
Amazingly, NBC does NOT make you disable your Ad blocking software to watch videos.
Just load up the player and watch.
CBS and ABC take note.

FOX
When you go to the FOX player you get this message...
"This episode is available Online or via TV On Demand to customers of participating cable or satellite TV providers."
Fortunately we have one of the approved TV providers so I can watch them.
But it goes on to say....
"Episodes appear online day after airdate; they unlock 8 days after airdate."
http://www.fox.com/
CW
The CW player also does not make you disable your Ad blocking software.
And you can watch their current shows there plus clips and videos.
Other Sites
Yes there are other sites around where you can watch movies and TV shows online that have escaped the grasp of ICE so far, but they will probably get them eventually.
Use them at your own risk.

I have been doing Hulu for a long time and just discovered Megavideo and sidereel. I love the internet!!! Great list
Ya, know I'm going to do this. Who wants to pay more than they have to in this economy anyway, right. Great idea, and excellent hub!
Something I have wondered about - since Direct TV costs so much these look like good alternatives. Thanks for the info.
I just bought a new TV and can watch Netflix directly without a PC. How can I watch regular TV?
This is exactly the reason we created the WhiteHatt Internet TV system. One component, all your content, media center, dvd, blu-ray, and licensed, free open source content. More content than the avg person could watch in a couple years.
We began this whole process with a $300 a month cable bill. 4 kids, and rarely anything on that we wanted to watch. Internet TV, whether you purchase WhiteHatt soon, Google TV next year, Netgear this summer, PopBox right now, etc. They all offer great features and content. Just make sure you are purchasing a unit that allows you to access free content without paying for it, instead of pay per view like Apple TV, etc.
Thank you
Thank you for the information. Another free site that I use is ch131.com. I watched the entire season of "Make it or Break It" there, and they do have some good shows there.
Will have to check those out. I've always wanted to start watching shows online, but my computer can be so slow and I never know where to go. Now I know....
Awesome, another good website is WatchXOnline, They have a good variety of shows at good quality (dot as good as DivX, but way better than Megavideo). Only problem with it that the videos are flash, so if your on a wireless connection and you lose the signal just for a second it stops loading and you have to start all over. If your connected by cable though, no problem.
Great hub
We've been trying to find a good internet TV site for a while now.. they seem to hide them.
Thanks for a very useful hub :)
Kate
Hey Sabreblade, thanks for the info on that, and great hub :)
Cool hub! I just canceled our cable service, for more reason than one. One of the biggest reasons was the outrageous price every month. I turned back on our Netflix subscription, so we're good to go with DVDs. My kids mostly just like watching cartoons and old shows anyway (Andy Griffith, I Dream of Jeanie, etc.).

Watching TV over the internet is really a fun.But sometimes streaming due to slow connection really plays the havoc.
