Beautiful But Deadly 5 - The Bollywood Edition
78Bollywood Actresses trained in the Martial Arts including Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and more.
Yes I have decided to combine two of my favorites, Bollywood and martial arts.
While doing research for my Bollywood Hubs, I ran across quite a few actresses that have been trained, or are training in martial arts.
Of course I really wanted them to be learning some exotic, almost extinct fighting style, but unfortunately, it seems most are just learning Tae Kwon Do, Judo stuff like that.
Not that there's anything wrong with those styles, but I wanted something more unusual you know?
Heck, the Mahabharata (which is dated back to about 400BC) has a battle in it between two warriors who use punches, kicks, finger strikes, knee strikes and head butts.
It even mentions the traditional wrestling form, Malla-yuddha,
But despite my disappointment in these beauties not being trained by the equivalent of Indian Ninjas, here are some of the lovely Bollywood actresses that you best be respectful to if you approach them for an autograph.
Aishwarya Rai
When the "Most Beautiful Woman in the World" Aishwarya Rai needed martial arts training for her role in the upcoming Bollywood film Enthiran, who did she call?
(Technically Enthiran was Tamil, Robot was Hindi and Robo was Telugu)
Martial arts teacher"Karate" Ramesh, the man that has run the Japan Shito-Ryu karate school in India for over 30 years.
Of course Ramesh was only training her for the movie, but who knows?
Maybe Ash will take it to heart and continue on in her training.
UPDATE
You know since I wrote this I found out that Ash has actually done a couple of sword fight scenes in movies.
In the films Jodhaa Akbar and The Last Legion....

Priyanka Chopra
Like Ash, when Priyanka Chopra needed to learn martial arts in her film Drona, they got her the best.
They had Gatka experts flown to Mumbai to teach the lady how to fight.
Now Gatka is a bit more like what I was looking for.
It's a style of stick fighting developed by the Sikhs of the Punjab region.
Priyanka had previously flexed her fighting muscles in the 2006 Bollywood film, Don: The Chase Begins Again
.

Asin
Now this is more like it.
Asin Thottumkal is studying the art of Kalarippayattu, possibly one of the oldest fighting systems in existence.
Of course she is learning it for the English, Tamil, Japanese film, The 19th Step, but she is learning.
Although rumor has it that The 19th Step has been shelved for now.
Ayesha
And here is another Ayesha, (not Ayesha Takia) this one is a Kannada actress, and a tad more skilled in martial arts than the other.
This Ayesha has already been nicknamed "Lady Bruce Lee" and has been training in martial arts since she was a year old.
Yes, a year old.
She'll be appearing in the Kannada action thriller Jayahe later this year.
Karate champion "Ayesha" Reviews
Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone received jujitsu training for the film Chandni Chowk To China.
She was trained by an un-named Chinese martial arts trainer, and by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who is a well trained martial artist and martial arts teacher himself.
Akshay started his training in Bangkok (or Hong Kong, depending on who you ask), and taught in Mumbai before becoming an actor.
Shilpa Shetty
Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty has a black belt in Karate...what style I have no idea.
Ayesha Takia
Another rumor is that Ayesha Takia is learning martial arts, after being inspired by both Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone.
Of course this is another case of learning the arts to get bigger roles.
But who knows.
It might stick with her.
Neetu Chandra
Now here is another Bollywood star that started karate before she became famous.
Not only does Neetu Chandra have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, she won a Silver Medal winner in a national Tae Kwon Do competition.
She also represented India in the International Taekwondo Championship at Hong Kong in 1996.
Tanushree Dutta
For her role in the children's film Rama - The Saviour, Tanushree Dutta got martial arts training from Peter Hann.
I'm not really sure what style Peter Hann teaches, but I have seen the name associated with both Aikido and Muay Thai.
Koena Mitra
Allegedly, Bollywood beauty Koena Mitra got Tai Chi training for her role in the movie Karna.
Funny thing is, I can’t actually find any trace of Karna.
It was supposed to star Orlando Bloom, and there was even an interview where Koena was talking about being on the set.

But the movie just vanished?
Nandana Sen
Nandana Sen is trained in Tae Kwon Do.
Anushka Shetty
Anushka Shetty played a sword-wielding heiress in Arundhati and a martial arts exponent in Billa (both in 2009).
I know she's a yoga instructor, but I really can’t find any confirmation that she has had any martial arts training other than how to fight on screen.
By the way, you can watch both Arundhati and Billa on YouTube in full.
Ishaa Koppikar / Eesha Koppikhar / Eesha Narang
Okay, it's hard to keep track of this lady of a thousand names...but, whatever you call her, this lady actually knows martial arts.
Last September, she got her black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
Isha Sharvani
If you ask me, I think actress and dancer Isha Sharvani is probably a pretty deadly little package.
She is skilled in gymnastics, yoga, dance AND martial arts.
Her martial art is Kalarippayattu, but she is also trained in Chhau dance, which is an Indian tribal martial dance.
So she can probably kick your butt and look good doing it.
Namitha Kapoor
At first glance you wouldn’t peg voluptuous Namitha Kapoor as a martial artist.
But not only is Namitha a black belt, but she's good enough that she once waylaid a guy trying to accost her.
Sharmila Mandre
Kannada actress Sharmila Mandre studied Tai Chi and kick-boxing under martial arts teacher Ashok Chandra in Mumbai.
Rosa Catalano
Rosa Catalano may be an Italian actress, but she dated Saif Ali Khan and now she is looking to break into Bengali films.
And she may just be looking at action films, because this beautiful young lady has been in kickboxing training for four years, and was trained in Wushu Kung Fu by Anan Henan in China.
Sandhya Shetty
Former Femina Miss India contestant, Sandhya Shetty is also a skilled karateka, she won a bronze medal at the National Karate Championship in Chennai.
Masumeh Makhija
Bollywood actress Masumeh Makhija has been studying Muay Thai for eight years.
Bianca Desai
Bianca Desai is also trained in Tae Kwon Do
Diana Hayden
Former Femina Miss India World 1997, Miss World 1997 and actress Diana Hayden was born on May 1st, 1973 in Hyderabad, India.
The third Indian woman to win the Miss World pageant launched an acting career like Aishwarya Rai did before her.
But not only is Diana an actress, she is trained in martial arts, and her teacher is world reknown 4th Dan Black Belt, Master Das, who teaches Wu Shu, Tai Chi, Muay Thai, Kick Boxing, Karate, Taoist Power Yoga, San Shou (Chinese Kickboxing) and Mixed Martial Arts.

Asin and Deepika look luscious...I'm going to have to start watching Bengali films...Are they in English..?
It's curious to think that any one of these beautiful women could kill me in about 10 seconds, but I guess ultimately it shouldn't be surprising. This was an interesting merging of Bollywood and martial arts. Nicely presented.
Mike
Wow, if I wound up in a room full of these woman - it would be like a scene from "Kill Bill". Okay, it wouldn't, I'm just saying that. Seriously, Sabre - this is a great collection of Kick-ass babes! You really do your research on these ladies. Must be a tough job! *chuckles* Cheers!
Every time we get a girl at the dojo we pamper her totally. It is very dificult to get girls to practice karate. When we have aerobic kick boxing, we get about 8 girls per 10 people. In karate, we get about 9 guys for each 10 student. Girls tend not to like the slow, steady advancement and rigid discipliner in karate. We practice traditional Shotokan (SKIF), I think that Tae Kuan Do dojos do tend to get more girls than we do. I guess TKD is flashier or something. Anyway, I think that karate looks so much more beautiful when a woman is performing it.
Neetu Chandra is the real deal and voluptuous Namitha Kapoor definitely can hold her own in almost any situation. Studying martial arts has so many benefits(confidence builder, physical fitness and self-defense) just to name a few. You have the perfect title for this hub. I enjoyed reading the thumbnail bio's and viewing the gorgeous photos.
Thanks for the hub! I come and check your hubs, but havent posted. How can I not enjoy looking at beautiful ladies?
We keep trying to recruit girls for the dojo. We have many champions amongst the boys, and agult guys. So, we would like to build a strong girl team. But we have very few women. I thing women are a great catalyst in a dojo. When you have girls, the guys behave better and work harder at impressing them.
Always tops sabre! Another one well done. Your articles are very nice to look at. :)
I love the list. This turns me on for some reason lol ;)
That's quite a list!
Man, some of those chicks can move! Been watching som evideos on you tube and they seem well trained!
Awesome list! I really wouldn't have expected to see so many Indian martial arts movies. :)
My goodness - what a figure has Asin. Quite extraordinary and she probably needs to do martial arts to fend off every passing male!!
acording to me asin is the best actressin hindi as well as tamil no one can beat asin even katrina she is queen

Hey Sabre, you keep coming out with these and it seems like you have really good looking ladies and some not so hot. :) ;) But, I did like a few of them. I guess we'll see what else you come up with later...(just kidding). Great work! :)
